On Part 2, you can see that making a blog is really easy right? ….. but making a proper blog to be monetize later on require more effort and work, in fact, this work have to be started even before you make a blog or a site. What kind of work ?  ……. Well, in this post, I’ll try to share several things that need to be done before making a blog …. don’t worry though …. these works take our time, but it’s fun, let’s explore more ….

We got to have a “topics” for our future blog, ….. what’s the topics? ….. literally, there are a lot of topics around us, and in my opinion, we must choose a topic or subject that we love and excite us most, therefore we will have fun in doing the research, building a website/blog, creating contents etc.

So, the easiest things to look for, is our hobbies or the work (whatever is it) that we know very well, it can be electronics and gadgets, football, dogs, parenting, child educations, making money online, music, playing piano, guitar, gardening, cars, jewelery, fine dining,  …… etc ….. etc ….. etc

Take one subject that we love most, do not think about monetizing it yet!

After we find one, I think it’s not too hard to find future contents for our blog, and we can go ahead with next research, ….. find keywords for our topics.

What is keyword? I try tyo explain as simple as possible, because, i only know simple things , keyword is a word that serve as a key to open what we seek for in the internet via search engine (the search engine do the search for us via database that collected by it’s crawler).

For example, if we type the word “golf” (without aposthrope) at the google search engine, this kind of page will be displayed :

So, google will display the websites that related to “golf”, there are about 490 million result relating to golf (look at the upper right numbers on the picture). Links on the mainpage are free listings links, and they ranked by the search engine (google, Yahoo etc.), while those on the right side (sometimes on the upperside box) are paid listings (they pay to be listed on that part, and they bid for each keywords via google adwords).

Why do we care so much about the word that people will key in on their internet search? …. because we want people will easily find and locate our blog, therefore, we will get high traffic to our site/blog and don’t forget that search engine have to easily find it as well, we will talk more on this subject, wich people called it SEO, (search engine optimazation). that’s the importance of selecting a keyword or some keywords for our blog.

Ideally our blog title, name and URL, consist at least one of our main keywords.

How can we find decent keyword? …. First, try with free services, one the free service available  is google adwords keyword tools, at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal , we can play around with this tools, to get ideas on keyword.

If we click the URL above, try the descriptive words or phrase, let’s key in “golf” (without aposthrope, just the word), the click the “get keywords idea” button, this page will appear :

We can see that we get a lot of data to analyze, we have keywords ideas, advertisers competition (the solid bar mean that the competition is very high), approx search volume at the recent month, aprox average search volume and we can go further with the choice of dropdown menu (currently broad), we can chose to add exact, phrase and negative words to the results, and we can click “get more related keywords” button to get more.

From those table we can get data to look for each keywords, how competitive etc, from the bar.

Let’s try key in “golf lesson” on the google search engine wich come up with this :

We can see that we have about 702,000 results for that word/phrase, compare with the 74,000 search monthly, is quite tough competition!

This free keyword tools (and also free trial from wordtracker etc.) can give us better understanding of the market situation.

I hope this data do not discourage us to look for topics that we love and we know, keywords is important but not the only things, there are a lot of other free facility that we can use to research further more.
