So far, We’ve been discussing how to create simple blog (free blog, free domain and free hosting ), also discussion about finding your niche and how to buy a domain name (this is important if you want to create more professional blog) and on the last post, I show one example of getting a free hosting where you can place your domain, so you can have blog with web adress http://www.yourdomain.com
But on previous post example, I show you how to get free hosting and free domain name. The disadvantages of using free domain name is your site will have address http://yourdomain.50webs.com wich will be more difficult to find and also, later on when you have a paid hosting service, this type of address is not relevant to be use.
From this post onward, I will discuss on how to choose, the good hosting services, wich aspect you should look at, and after that, we will discussing topics on how to open and use cpanel of a hosting account, and also how to open fantastico facility to install Wordpress using this facility, and then how to create ontent on the wordpress based blog that we have made.
In the recommended source page (I will make this page in the very near future) I will added some useful resources, and one of several recommendation will be a Blog in a Box solution (eventhough it’s low cost, you have to pay for this service), where you can upload a prepacked file to your hosting server, and build your blog within minutes, and at the end you got yourself a fully optimized Web 2.0 blog that ready to be monetize, you don’t have to worry about settings, plugins etc. And several very nice tutorials videos (you can learn alot from this) and bonuses will come along with this prepacked files.
But If you want to do it yourself, by using fantastico, I will show it how, and the enhancement of the blog can added manually by yourself.
You have to spend sometimes to study and do it by yourself, but I can tell you that studying this subject with all trial and errors is worth your time!, because I like the activity. But for you guys who just want to have a prepacked files, that can be use over and over again (If you have more domains and blogs) then the Blog in a Box is one of my recommended resources.
Let’s continue our tutorial session !
Let’s assume that we already bought a domain name (www.yourdomain.com) , the next step is choosing the credible and dependable hosting company. You may ask, why do we need a hosting services? well, we’ve discussed this topic a bit on the previous post, but let me explain a bit more.
In order that your Blog or your website can be access by public 24/7 (24 hours per day and 7 days per week), you need to place it on a server. This server must be up and running and connect to the internet all the time. theoritically, you can buy a server yourself, and turn it on with internet access, put in all necessary softwares and you have to keep this server running all the time. So you can imagine how much you’ll be spending, to buy a server, softwares all the infrastructures, and then manage and maintain it regularly …… lots of money and a bunch of work!
So, some companies look at this as a business opportunity, they bought a very large servers and then splice it up for users who want to take some room of that big servers (instead of buying a server and maintain it by themselves). the users/customers have to pay every month for that, and in return, the hosting company will give you a smaller server (actually it’s part of their big servers), with all facility installed (programs, maintenance etc.) along with the suppor to help you on any problem you’ll be encounter in the future related to the server. Their responsibility is to keep our server perform 24/7. So we as users can keep our focus on making a blogs, contents, monetizing etc. without worrying on our server performance.
Several things have to be consider on choosing a hosting company, for example, do they provide :
- Easy payment system (credit cards, paypal etc.)
- 24 hours support team (sales, technical etc.)
- disk space and bandwidth (very important)
- cpanel
- Instant backup
- Uptime Guarantee
- Free Instant setup
- Moneyback guarantee for certain period (this can be our evaluating period for that company)
- and many more!…. look at their offers carefully and compare
I personaly using hostgator Linux Webhosing package for my server and they provide me with the best services. I really like their support (through a live chat box) that can be accessed 24/7 , and very professional support team.
Your domain name will be the primary domain name, and if you want another domains or blogs, you can add on later by domain add on facility on the cpanel (by the way for starting at hostgator , I recommend you start with hatcling service (current price is $4.95/month) that will be much more than enough to host your blog, but later on if you want to add more independent domain (subdomain is unlimited for this package), you’ll upgrade it easily in practically no time, so to speak.
Hostgator is not the only one, there are other good provider around, you can look at each one of them and compare it yourself, but as for myself, I am very satisfied with hostgator.
Now, if you already have a primary domain (I suggest that for the first time, you bought domin name at the hosting company you will use), and a hosting server, you can access the cpanel at http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
And we will proceed on how to open and use the cpanel (uploading files, making MySQL Database etc.)
