Okay …… we’ve gone through several aspects on creating our own blog with spesific domain name, using a reliable hosting services.
From here, we can proceed to actually build our reliable blog. To do this we have to upload our blog work place … the back end, where we could do literally anything we like with our blog.
For our example, we will be using wordpress. There are to ways to do this, using fantastico and manually, We willl study both method, so let’s begin with the easiest, using fantastico.
Let’s get started and please read on, without worry about some technical jargon, …. it’s easy stuff! really!, sometimes technical jargon make it seems difficult.
As we discussed on previous post, the hosting provider we choose, should have cpanel that we could access to do many jobs. We will do both using fantastico and manual installation via our cpanel.
So, what is cpanel? ….. Cpanel is the main work area for uploading, creating data base, creating e-mail, file manager, etc.. It’s really important to understand features of our cpanel.
after we signed up for hosting account (with www.yourdomain.com as our primary domain), we will receive welcome e-mail from the hosting company, along with several important information, usually something like this :
- your domain : yourdomain.com (without www)
- Your user name : user name that we want on registration
- your password : the password that we assigned
- your site IP address : numbers of our server IP address
- your name servers : 2 servers (on host gator, it,s ns—-.hostgator.com and nsxxxx.hostgator.com), —- and xxxx are numbers provided.
our first step is to change our domain DNS to the servers names provided , by the way, DNS is abbreviation of Domain Name Server. This step will be done by the hosting company if you bought the domain name from them, otherwise we have to do it ourself, ….. but don’t worry!, it may sound so “techie” and sophisticated, actually if we follow the instructions accordingly it’s really easy, and the live chat from our hosting company will be ready anytime to assist us …. no dumb questions …. so, if needed, don’t ever affraid to ask anything.
The DNS change above will take about 24 hours to 48 hours to propagate around the world, and hence we could use it, meanwhile, we still can access our cpanel at http://ipnumberprovided/cpanel and login with our username and password ….. it’s easy. After the DNS have changed, we will access our cpanel at : http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel and login with our username and password.
Let’s access our cpanel, click http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel , you’ll be taken to the login box, type in your username and password, then you’ll be in this page (or similar to this page, I just pick the top and the bottom of the page, because the cpanel is quite long, so in the picture below, some of the items are not shown) :
Several items that we will pay attention for now are :
- On the upper picture you can see under the files group : file manager and FTP account
- On the lower picture, under the databse group : mySQL and under the software group : fantastico (”smiley like” character)
Okay ….. now we’re gonna upload our blog using wordpress via fantastico …. why do we use fantastico? it’s the easiest method, don’t worry though, after we’ve completed our fantastico tutorial, we will discuss making our blog manually, via uploadin using FTP manager (For FTP software, you can get it for FREE! from FileZilla. FileZilla is the free FTP solution. by the way …. FTP is abbreviation of File Transfer Protocol.
Back to our fantastico …….. on your cpanel, click the fantastico ….
I’ll continue using fantastico tutorial on the next post, I’ll post it as soon as possible
