Ideas on Profitable blogging and website using affiliate and PPC program to achieve our goal on Income from the internet tutorial continuing with this part 5 on Modification and Enhancement.

Okay, the most prominent features of the wordpress blog are it’s plugins, ….. yes, wordpress plugins are so sophisticated in it’s functions and yet very easy to get and very easy to use. There are tons of free plugins out there and also a lot of really nice commercial plugins for your own spesific use.

But before we begin exploring the plugins (actually we’ve done some of this plugins installataion and activation on my previous post … remember Akismet and All in one SEO pack plugins?), let’s reviews some of our blog settings.

On the Dashboard, click on settings and you will be taken to the settings page, let’s begin with the general settings, look at the picture below :

Next we click writing (Still under the settings), I will go briefly on this, In here you can set the size of the post box and then formatting options, and then we can enable remote publishing if we want to etc.

Ok, in short, on writing, I  prefer to wirite post on note pad and then paste it in the “write post” at the dashboard, or just write post directly on “write post” section at the dashboard.

I don’t prefer post via e-mail, but you can do it if you want, just be careful of the spammers out there.

Next click “Reading”. On this settings, we can set our preference here, such as Front page display, it can be static page or just our latest page . And then Blog Pages shows at most, the default is 10 but you can make it 3 if you feel that displaying 10 pages will take a lot of space and your blog appearence will be too long (readers have to scroll down to read the lower part). That’s about it, the syndication feed, you can leave it as it is or set as you like, and the encoding for pages and feeds, I keep it at the default (UTF-8).

Next click on “Discussion” settings.  The default settings on this have been automaticaly set, but there are some items I would like to highlight. First the “Before Comment Appears”, I would like to tick the first box, “The administrator must always approves the comments” , by doing this, we prevent irrelevant comments flooding to our blog.

Next on the “Comment Moderation” , I really like the “Hold a comment in the queue if it contains 2 or more links” statements because if a comments contain more than 2 links, it will most likely come from “spammers”. You can set it to any number, but I prefer to keep 2 or more links. We can hold certain comments that contains suspicious words, by specifying it on the box provided. We can also Banned certain words, IP’s etc, read the following instruction “When a comment contains any of these words in its content, name, URL, e-mail, or IP, it will be marked as spam. One word or IP per line. It will match inside words, so “press” will match “WordPress”.” to fill the box below it … if needed. And if you scroll way down, you can find options for avatars, choose as you like or just leave it as it is.

Next is privacy settings, this is simply just about blog visibility, for our purpose, I will certainly choose the default settings, wich is visible to anyone.

Next, is about permalinks. This is important, in order to make my permalinks simple and easy to find, I would choose settings without funny characters inserted on my permalinks. So I personally choose Custom structure, and on the box I write : /%category%/%postname%

By doing this, any permalinks linking to any post will be display as : http://www.yourdomain.com/category/title.  So, on this blog (smartmoneymakingwebsite.com), any individual post will be like that, for example, on my sticky post “READ ME FIRST” have a permalink http://www.smartmoneymakingwebsite.com/general/read-me-first

Next is the Miscellaneous settings, there is not much into it, you could study and read it.

I think that’s the highlights of the settings for our blog. And in the future, if you install more plugins, you can access each plugins settings from the “Settings” link.

By completing this settings to make our profitable blog, our task on achieving goals on Income from the internet is almost ready.
